Paid Inclusion In
Search Engine Rankings

Paid inclusion refers to paying a search engine to include a listing of your website.

Many search engines will list your website for free if they choose to do so. In other words, they will list websites that meet their criteria and if they decide that your website is worthy of inclusion, it will get listed.

Typically, a high quality site that gets listed is one that offers good, original content and is free of spammy and other underhanded techniques that some people use to quickly build websites.

If you “follow the rules” and build a good quality website, you can get ranked by the search engines after a period of time. It could be weeks or even months (or longer) to get ranked.

In my experience, I’ve found my various websites have typically taken several weeks to get initially listed on some search engines while other engines took longer, sometimes several months.

A paid inclusion may not even guarantee that your website will get listed.

Essentially what it does is try to cut down on frivolous submissions by charging you a fee – perhaps several hundred dollars – to apply for inclusion. The search engine will then review your site to determine whether or not your site gets included in their rankings.

Depending on their rules, you may or may not (probably not) get a refund if your site is rejected during the paid inclusion process.
